I was blessed and thankful to receive a round of steroid shots to accelerate Adelyn's lung development. The fact that her lungs literally began developing at a faster rate within 24 hours, greatly reducing the risk of respiratory distress upon her grand arrival, is positively amazing. And this amazing medical development, touted as one of the best advances in fetal medicine in the 90s, was in great part due to the fundraising efforts of March of Dimes campaigns nationwide.
And steroid shots are just one way that the March of Dimes has funded research. Did you know that March of Dimes has funded the research for the following medical practices...
- Folic acid during pregnancy
- Newborn screening test (for all babies, not just preemies)
- NICU support for families
- Medications to stop preterm labor
The list goes on and on. And with continued support of this wonderful foundation, the list will continue to go on and on.
To celebrate the research and God's grace in the healthy lives of all of the preemies in our family (niece born at 35 weeks, nephew at 30 weeks, Davis at 36 weeks), to support the families whose little ones are currently being nursed to health in NICUs, and for further research for healthy pregnancies for all, our family will be walking in this year's March of Dimes.
